When I’m carving a very fragile piece like you have in this segment, and it’s usually a flower petal or a leaf tip, I usually go ahead and break it off and glue it realizing that if I bump it later and it breaks and falls into the wood chips on the floor it can be impossible to find. Is that cheating?

It is not Cheating. Just one more approach. I am personally don’t see anything wrong with it.
