I think that it would be easier to cut a level background by using a Dremel with the plunge router set to depth. There are various models & prices. It’s cheaper than buying a router-plane. They are available for sale at Stew-Mac. Guides are used for following straight lines, so they are also used for inlay & stringing.

Yes, You could use rotary tools but I am not the biggest fan of dust.

So what do you recommend as the best way to get rid of dust if I use a Dremel?
