Alex, you mentioned Basswood as the best material for carving. Do you recommend “air dried” Basswood and if so please share a few sources for on line purchase. Roger

Yes, air dried is the best option in my opinion. But kiln dried will work also. It is harder to find at lumber yards air dried Basswood. As far as source. I bought a LOAD of Basswood from Amish lumber in Goshen, Indiana few years ago and did not touch it for 3-5 years. It is a small Amish hardwood company and they sell locally only.I would go to local Hardwood supplier/ Lumber yard and ask to order for you 16/4 basswood. If you don’t want to buy a load, you can always search on eBay or buy from woodcraft.com

Hi Alexander
I’m from Australia and Basswood is very rare here are you familiar with Australian woods suitable for carving? I have been using White Beech and Old Maple. White beech is very nice to carve but hard to find.

cheers
David

Jelutong- is one of the choices for Carving in Australia. I never used Jelutong myself but I was researching online and carvers using it.
Australian white beech is also a good choice but has to much grain.
Camphor Laurel is good for very detailed carvings.

1.where is a picture of the finished Gibbons project. The last video does not show finished piece.

2.Where do you get large pieces of Bass wood
