Found this leaf much more challenging that the Corinthian. The instructions were phenomenal, I just had trouble with the flow of the leaves and the overall shape. However, I found myself improving my skills.

Thanks again for all the content and am excited for the next project.

Couldn’t figure out how to upload more than one photo. Wow, this project looks a lot better in person. The iPhone photos are brutal.

This project took longer than I expected. I had to tool up quite a bit to accomplish the extreme undercutting, which I love. There are quite a few undercuts that go all the way through. More than I intended. When I removed the last layer of background, it opened several.

I did this project in Butternut because that’s what I had and it’s finished with beeswax. It’s had many compliments from lay people as well as renowned artists. They love the undercutting and the flow of the lines. Easily my most favorite piece to date. I’m looking forward to larger and more complex pieces.

Next project is the Roman Acanthus.

Hi, Alex, it’s a beautiful acanthus leaf but it was a challenge for me. With lack of tools it’s been hard time to finish it. It turned out I need some small back grounding tools and skill of sharpening tools.
But the #12 Pfeil knife was helpful to carve details much. Anyway I was enjoying while carving the project.

Hey Alex!
I just finished carving this leaf and I’m really happy with the overall design. I’m open to criticism and I want to know if there are any mistakes that I haven’t spotted. Here are some that I know of: first off, the leaf in the top-right corner should be overlapping the swirling leaves to the left, but slowly over time they were clipped away from each other until they didn’t overlap. Another problem is that I’m missing a swirling leaf on the left because I brought the fourth one too low to the background and decided to get rid of it. Thinking back, I shouldn’t have done that, but instead I should’ve blended the heights of the swirling leaves to create a nice, smooth motion. Between me not having any back-bent tools and choosing a smallish block of wood, it was difficult to add the smaller details without wrecking the delicate top. In my next go-around, I’ll try to go bigger and also have a back-bent for the undercutting. All in all, I’m happy with it and looking forward to doing it again. Thank you for such a good course!
