This design looked easy but was difficult with all the small areas. I used my only coarse leather work stamp. All the other stamps had fine details that did not resolve. You should have links to gouge vendors, maybe we could get discounts and you could get support for your channel. I wind up buying new gouges with every project.

I had thought to use my leather tools in the right application. I have more experience with leather than wood (and more tools, also). Some other resources for leathercraft tools are Proleathercarvers.com, Weaverleathersupply.com, and Springfieldleather.com. I see this particular tool originates from Springfield but they will all have it or something very close. It is a common backgrounding tool used in leathercraft. There are many backgrounding and other tools available and I find these sites have very browsable online catalogs, a wide variety of tools and good availability. Proleathercarvers stocks new and also vintage tools that come available. I have never been disappointed with them. Hope it helps.

I had difficulty with the background in the small areas, but enjoyed it. I used an old “0” punch to adapt the background, but it was a fun project.
