Thank You! Very appreciate it!

I did not see the reference to the specific Pfeil knife you use. I am used to using Wayne Barton chip carving knives but I would probably like to purchase one of the Pfeil knives you use in these lessons. Thank you, Mike L.

It is PFEIL “Swiss Made” Chip Carving Knife #12

Here is a link to Amazon

Sir… i have this knife but i find it very hard to retain sharpness, may i know do you eegrind the bevel..? What can you advice me with this knife… thanks😁😁

Did the exercise using a flex cut knife while I have the Phiel on order. The petals were difficult due to the rounded point o the knife. It tore rather than clean cutting the wood on the small cuts. I am also a bit confused as to the location of the upload button for the exercise that you referred to in your earlier introductory email. Are we supposed to post pictures for your review? Thanks

What are the thickness of the two pieces of wood used in the beginner in Carving chapter?
For the Curley Kitchen Cutting Board, what dimensions should it be?
I have been lucky to find a forester willing to sell me any amount in any dimensions of lind, makes it a bit easier for me.

.about 3/8″ (10mm). But You can use a thicker piece. You are blessed to have someone close by with supplies of timber (lumber)

I have been trying to work with a carving knife that I have. Don’t know the brand. I just had it laying around, I have pfeil on order. should be here monday, I hope. I am not going any further with what I have. the work doesn’t meet my expectations. I have pictures. just don’t know how to get them from my phone to this site . You are a very good instructor, I have a long ways to go , to even come close to your working skills , but I will get their (sooner or later).

I completed the Beginner Carving 1.1-1.5 I do not see a place to upload the assignements. I did email them to you. Did I miss something since I am starting Workshop 2. I could not find the download link for the pattern. ??? It is probably right in front of me, but I can’t seem to find it. HELP! ! !

I found it! Still trying to figure out how to upload completed assignments. ?

Hello.
I got my pfeil knife. I noticed that mine has a bevel on only one side. Is that correct?
Also, if anyone asks about basswood source, there is one called Heinecke. Their website is Heinecke.com. I just got some wood from them for some other projects. It is creamy smooth and carves easily. They will cut your pieces to your specifications, too.

Noooooo, it is not correct. But You can fix it yourself. It is frustrating to learn that Pfeil is losing quality every year more and more.

How do I fix it? Should I use the stone I have? I have several stones. Sharpening is something I find difficult. I’m getting better but need some guidance on putting a bevel on the other side.

I have watched 1.1-1.5 but my Workshop 1 is still showing only partially complete. Is there another portion that I am missing? I’m still very new to this program and am trying to figure out the process. Thank you in advance!

Hi alex. I have done a bit of woid working but never any carving. Ur instruction is very good so far. Question. Do u at times use bads wood for some of ur fine pieces seeing that it is so soft and doesnt have much appearance or grain pattern. Thanks

Hello Brother Alex, I have been to the region of Perm, Russia and surrounding villages to teach and minister, amazing people, loved my time there. Thank you for the school, really enjoying the classes. I finished assignment #1 however it is on the back side of Basswood for assignment #2. The up-loader would only allow 1 jeg picture. please let me know what i can do to show you.
Moving on the assignment #3, really looking forward to it.

I was in Perm multiple times. I love Kungur cave, did you have a chance to visit Kungur?

No we didn’t see much in Perm except for the churches. We did spend extended time in Moscow, visiting the area around Saint Basil’s. However I loved the people and looking forward to going back.

Privet Alexander,
ja so Slovakii, poetamu kogda ty govovris po Rusky mne takze vsio jasno. But because other people are here, I would write English. I am so happy, that I can learn from a Guru. I mean you. Thank you very much that you share all you experiences with us. To the point. Please because I am not able in this time to buy Pfeil Carving knife, Shape 12, can you tel me some alternative knife, for example from TWO CHERRIES, or Flexcut? Thank you
Spasibo
Peter

Privet Peter! Any carving knife will work. Just make sure steel is of good quality. I am sure 2 thousands years ago they did not have #12 Pfeil 🙂

I have been working with a Beaver Craft roughing blade. I can tell a rounded edge would be better for these assignments, but the flat edge IS doing the trick.

Thank you for your knowledge!

Good Day Alexander! I am very new to wood carving. I just enrolled in your school. I am starting in the bottom. Now what if you do not have a tool that is recommended. In this case a chip carving knife #12. I am not sure even where to buy them. My only source is Amazon. It also takes close to a month for anything I order to get to me. In the meantime, what do I do? I need some advise. I did buy the 12 pc pfeil from Amazon. Thank you. Stay safe.
