It became obvious as I roughed out that your technique of removing stress on the cut before you get too close to the line, gives a cleaner final trim. I was a little pushy at times taking too big a downward slice and paid the price of not having as smooth a downward cut as I would have liked. I am already on a good learning curve and its only early days.
