Thank you! Many of your projects include flowers, but it is hard to wander through hundreds of workshops looking for the flower carving series. And… very often we end up with “Sorry…. I lost the footage.” It’s good to see this one from start to (almost) finish.

If you ever wanted to make a special index to your site, I would like to see the flower carving segments emphasized. Just the flowers, not all of the framework around them (as in Hashemi), just the flowers. Yet searching through literally thousands of hours of videos makes that a tough thing to do. [Hmmmmmmm… maybe tags associated with each video segment could help build an index?]

No matter, THANKS for these flower segments,
Bob Easton

I am working on a new search function for the School site. It takes a lot of time to redo everything. I like the idea of implementing tags/hashtags. Let me think about how I can do it.

WordPress natively supports tags and there a many plugins offering different ways of using the tags. The hardest part (most time consuming) will be reviewing all posts/videos and adding appropriate tags.

I have over 2850 videos as of today. It would take a long time. But I do have a very robust search plugin. I will add some searchable text in the material tab and it should show in the search results.

A different question … about your current carving bench.
A couple of years ago, you were using a carver’s vice, even for fairly large pieces. As the corbels in the Venitian Room got larger, you switched to the current bench, a modest benchtop on some sort of tilt & swivel base. Looking back through videos about the time this device first appeared, I can’t find you describing it. Nor, have I had much success searching for it online. What is the tilt & swivel device under the bench and where might we find them?
Thanks, Bob Easton

Check out Veritas as they sell the carving vice

Sorry Daniel. I wasn’t asking about the carving vice, but about the new device that replaced the Veritas vice Alexander used some time ago.

Robert, it is Veritas carver’s bench top. Veritas Varver's Bench And bench I built myself. Veritas Carver's vise Here is a link to it https://schoolofwoodcarving.com/Veritas_Top

Thank you Alexander. I like your base better. It looks easier to move and less of a trip hazard from those iron legs.
Thanks!

I agree, it is why I built a base I can walk around.

The weight of my setup is around 280lb. Super heavy.

Great camera work on the flower, make following so easy

Thank You, I am trying to improve my angles.

Veritas/Lee Valley charges $915 the for carver’s tabletop & $1285 for the complete bench with the legs. It’s also no longer available.
I found a YouTube version of a carver’s bench from a channel called Sid’s Workshop that can be made for $20 using the top of a Harbor Freight workbench, a discarded bar stool swivel (or a heavy duty lazy Susan) & some scrap wood. Since this $20 version is more within my budget than Veritas, I’ll give it a try.
